WHat does the folloiwng sentnece mean?

1. One reason for the students have over the definition of short stories is that the other word forms, anecdotes, sketeches, or slices of life often find their ways into them.

2. These ( what does these indicate?) are often pretty and faintly moving.


3. The less words we use, the harder it is to have comething clearly happen to a character, and have that occurrence change him or her.

The sentence does not make sense. Have you copied it exactly? There seems to be something missing - "One reason for the students have...."

2. These ( what does these indicate?) are often pretty and faintly moving.
Presumably, the anecdotes, sketches and slices of life; possibly the short stories.


3. The less words we use, the harder it is to have something clearly happen to a character, and have that occurrence change him or her.

The shorter and more concise as text, the less possible it is to allow characters to develop or action to be described fully.

"word forms" = word spellings/usages
anecdotes = short accounts, usually verbal, about something
sketches = outlines of something
vignettes = small glimpses of something
slices of life = idiom for little bits of people's lives

All these are being used to emphasise the many tiny elements that are combined in fiction to create the whole story.

They are often pretty = they are often attractive in quality
and faintly moving = they have the capacity to make us feel slightly emotional
but somehow leave us with a slightly unsatisfied feeling = but in the end we do not feel that we have been given a complete story and want more.
