Default still about a short story

The following sentences are about a short story and I am not sure what it means. Please help me to get it.

. One reason for the confusion students often have over the definiton of short stories is that other words form, acecdotes, or slices of life often find their wasy into them.(Also, what does them indicate??)

That other words FROM anecdotes. or slices of life find their way into them.

'Them' means the short stories. I would suggest also that 'definition' be changed to 'interpretation'

Bosun, you keep on asking questions about the same bit of text!

This has been answered at least once already, if not twice.
