Choosing the Right Word Dear Teacher,
I was asked to find the right word (among the 4 reply options) to fill in the blank provided in the following sentence:
" I couldn't use the pay phone, . . . . . . . I did't have any coins with me."
a. yet
b. despite
c. for
d. even though
In my opinion, the right word in this context should be 'since' or 'because', which introduce the reason for something mentioned in the previous statement. Unfortunately, these words were not given as possible reply options. I think 'for' (option c) can be accepted, but it's old-fashioned and rarely used in modern English. What do you think?
