Hi! I just wish to ask a question which I encountered a few days ago in school.
a) They refuse to let the physical conditions affect their mental conditions.
b) They refuse to let the physical conditions to affect their mental conditions.

May I know which option is the correct answer? Thx.

P.S. I didn't realise that I spelt mental as metal, so sorry to those who are confused by what I'm writing. And thank you to the people who replied my post. =)

Interesting one. (a) is correct as it stands. (b) could be correct if the suggested or hidden words are included:
"They refuse to let the physical conditions to have any affect on their metal conditions.
I think you meant 'mental' not 'metal'. This does not change the offered answer.

Ok, thank you very much! Although both Anglika and you say (a) is correct, my teacher said (b) is correct, so I'm a little confused here. I'll show her your comment and see what she thinks. Thanks anyway. XD

This is perhaps a difference between Am and Br English, but neither «They refuse to let the physical conditions to affect their metal conditions» nor «They refuse to let the physical conditions to have any affect on their metal conditions» is possible for me. In my ideolect, "let" always takes the bare infinitive.
