Can someone please tell me which comma rules apply in the following sentences: "It presents a view of his attitude towards and practical understanding of sanity" or "Their contribution was of equal if not larger stature" and finally, "What is the signicance of the balance of trade with and huge revenues from countries"?

"What is the signicance of the balance of trade with, and huge revenues from, countries"?

Commas set off phrases from one another so that the reader undertands the meaning.

What "rules" have you been studying that can help explain these sentences?

Thanks a lot. Only, many socalled professional writers don't do this consistently, especially with short interjected phrases followed by a single word, e.g. like "stature" in one of the examples

In these two sentences, there are subsidiary qualifications which need identifying through either commas or brackets.

"What is the significance of the balance of trade with and huge revenues from countries?"

This sentence does not require commas.
