Default chin wag = gossip, tittle-tattle

    Dear teachers,

By supplying deficiencies of a quiz concerning the theme "Body parts" I found it difficult to use the term "chin", which I have to put in a gap of the following sentence.

"I called my friend Jane and had a chin wag."

I got to know the meaning of the idiom "chin-wag"= chin wagging = light informal conversation for social occasion, but yet the usage of the term chin on this place is one too many for me.

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether the idiom in question is in general currency in the English world?

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

    Regards.

    V.

    Yes, quite usual.

If you are gossiping/chatting/talking, your chin wags as you talk so you are chin-wagging.
