Question Difference between "few" and "a few"

    Hi teachers!
What's the difference between "few" and "a few" ? What should I write when writing an instruction in the notebook of a child asking him to write some sentences on her mother. Should that be "Write a few sentences about your mother." or " Write few sentences about your mother."?
    Best regards!

Different between a few and few

they both are used with countable noun.
-a few has positive meaning. It means a small amount of something, but it is enough.
-Few has negative meaning.it means a small amount of something and it isn't still enough.

    for example,
-I have a few apples. This means that 2 or 3 apples is enough for me.
    - I have few apples. This means that 2 o 3 apples that i have is not still enough,i still need more.
