In terms of anthropology/sociology, the term generation refers to all the people born at the same time. For example, the Baby Boomers of the 1940s and 50s, the Hippy Generation of the 1960s, the X Generation of the 1970s. The present generation, people born in the 1980s ad 1990s has yet to be named officially. At present, though, Generation Next is adopted as a play on words. It means, not Generation X.
The term Next Generation refers to the generation after this, the present one. The term is also used in manufacturing, especialy hardware and software, and even Star Trek has a "Next Generation" of cast members. 8)
