Default Adverb Clause of reason an Adverb clause of purpose

How do we differentiate between adverb clause of reason and adverb clause of purpose? The connectors they use are different but both answer the question 'why'.

Haven't you really answered your own question when you say that the connectors are different?

Isn't there any other logical way to explain this other than just based on connectors?

Reason and purpose are not identical; if someone steals because they're hungry, that is the reason, but the purpose would have been to alleviate their hunger.
