It is not always a verb. You must look at the way it is used in the sentence!!
I work in (the business of selling advertising) - noun.
I have to prepare an advertisement. - noun
I need to put out an advertisement - noun
I would like you to advertise this slogan in your shop window (verb)
also what is the difference between a franchise and a franchisement and how do they function in a sentence ?
They mean the same. For example:
John and his wife have a Starbucks franchisement. The franchise fees are very high.
