| Reading an article in NYT I noted an unknown expression which is yet not made clear to me. Please see the brief excerpt below as well as a few further examples. CLINTON CHOKED UP AT NH ROUNDTABLE Hillary Clinton teared up at the end of a roundtable with undecided voters here the day before the primary… Clinton joked about having help with her hair and then began to get choked up and teary-eyed. You can get choked up when you see something touching or you’re really happy. Hillary Clinton got choked up on the campaign trail today, She paused right before she "choked up". Hillary Clinton apparently choked up and wiped her eye after a heartfelt introduction at a children's center, I know a few synonyms of choked up as anxious (worried), congested (blocked), strained (forced). Would you be kind enough to tell me in plain, comprehensible English words the exactly meaning of the expression choked up? Please do it in much the same manner as I did below about the expression teary-eyed. Teary-eyed

| When someone is very emotional, physically the throat contracts and the feeling is of being choked. The person is "choked up", and unable to speak. |

| Hi Anglika, Thank you again for your proverbial concise and clear explanation. Owing to you now I can understand faultless the meaning of the following sentences: "This song really choked me up." "I was really choked up when I saw her again." Thank you for your backing. Regards. V. |
