Dear Friends
What do you say in English for the following:
1- A room in your house in which you receive guests?
2-When you cause the machine to not work any more, what is the verb that you use? Example: She................the washing machine. It is defective now.
3-That hump-like thing which traffic people construct on roads with the aim to have cars cut off their speed?
Thank you.

Thank you very much.
I have a little question. Isn't the "living room", the one in which the family sepnds all its time? Is it different from the "Dining Room"?
Regards
Mar
A 'Living Room' or 'Lounge' is usually the room where we can watch TV from the sofa. I think 'Den' is also used in American English.
'Dining Room' is a room with a big table where meals are eaten.
Agreed, the living room/den is where people spend most of their time at home. And in very large houses you may find a separate reception room as well, but for most of us the living room would be where you would also receive your guests.
"reception room".. That is the one I am looking for. Thank you SB :)
Thank you Anglika
