This is a piece of old saying, I was wondering if anybody could spell it out for me, thanks.

I have never heard that one before. Usually, its:

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

But, using your line, it would mean "if life gives you sour or bitter circumstances, respond with bitterness in your actions to others."

Not a good way to look at life!
