Phrasal verbs: to sail off and to speed on

I cannot find translations (from English into French) or explanations of the following phrasal verbs, both from The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles:

1) To sail off

"Yes, he has sailed off for news of his father" (Book 5, Line 21)

2) To speed on

"May Zeus speed him on to a happy end" (Book 2, Line 34)

I understand that the old lord Aegyptius who is speaking, would like Zeus to accelerate the return of Odysseus and that this return should finally end in a happy way. What other verb could replace "speed him"?
