is there an easy way to find whether the word is a gerund or a present progressive. Especially when the word is in the middle of the sentences, not in the beginning of sentences. Thanks.![]()
Look for an auxiliary verb- if the -ing form comes after it and together they make a complete verb, it's a present participle.
Is it modifying a noun? If so, then the present participle is used as an adjective.
Is it the complement of the verb? If so, it's a gerund.
Is it after a preposition? If so, it's a gerund.
