Hi,
Anyone can help me explain the bold text:
He killed his first man at 22, and though it had been unplanned -- bad clams had sent the mark home early from the ballet -- he had no aversion to stealing a life. Particualarly if there was a good profit in it.
tks :D

(This is just a guess.)
Indigestion had sent the target home early from the ballet. Maybe the victim arrived unexpectedly and caught him red-handed.
Does this fit in with the rest of the story?
