Dear teather:
I'm a Chinese girl. Now I have a question to answer you, please write back to me. Thank you very much
(1).The class was holding a meeting last Wednesday afternoon.
(2).The class held a meeting last Wednesday afternoon.
Which of the two questions is correct? Why?
Please answer the question for me. Thank you very much again! :wink:

That's right. :D Both are correct. The difference between 'was holding' and 'held' has to do with continuity. 'was holding' expresses a state of on going, like this,

The class was holding a meeting last Wednesday afternoon when the fire alarm went off. (i.e., while we were meeting, the alarm sounded) Both the meeting and the alarm happened during the same time.
