Thumbs up 'Only' looks awkward for me

Hi

For me the word 'only' looks awkward.

Because, many of my friends try to use this word for the sentences given below:

Once my friend replied for the question : 'Who did this work?' as 'I am only!', some other replied 'I only'.

for these type of sentences what could be the substitutions for the word 'only'.

Also could any body suggest me the usage of 'only' and substitution for that?

.
I agree that 'only' is awkward there. Try:

'Who did this work?'

'Just me.'
'I did it myself.'
'I did it alone.'

etc.
.
