Yes - that's correct. It is just a little more formal and precise than
Will you be home this evening?

and colloquially:
"Are you going to be in tonight?"

Thank you very much for your answer. It looks good to me too. However, I am not sure if A anticipated what B was going to do that evening. A asked if B was at home that evening and B offered him/her a further explanation on what s/he was going to do that evening.

Mai exact: A intreaba doar daca B va fi acasa. Nu este sigur/a ca va fi. B vine cu o explicatie in plus: va fi acasa si va avea de lucru la un proiect. Multumesc mult.
