Grammar errors

Are the following ok??

1. The Principle diverted our tuition to his personal use - a family pilgramage to Mecca.

2. Owing to the commander's diversion strategy, we averted a total defeat.

3. Beginning in September, the University will revert to the semester academic system.

Should University and Principle be capitalized?

a) A principal is your "pal" (i.e., friend). Note the spelling. :wink:
b) diverted sounds odd to me in that context
c) The symbol " - " should be two, like this " -- "
d) I don't get the connection: --a family....
e) pilgrims go on pilgrimages. Note the spelling :wink:

a) What about, just diversion? Strategy is implied.
b) I'd change averted to escaped. But that's just me. :)

What about, just the semester system? Academic is implied by the word "University".

Should University and Principle be capitalized?

If it refers to a specific person's title or name, it should be capitalized. That is, if you know who/what you are talking about, then capitalize the word:

The Principal (Specific person at our school)
The University (Specific place)

The principal in a school should... (I don't know the person's name)
The university down the road... (I don't know the university's name)

2. averted a total defeat sounds odd to me too. Sorry.

I think I see it now. Divert the scholarship fund would have been better. It is not the word, divert, that makes it look funny, it is tuition.

Prevent a total defeat would be better.
