Smile Number Blunder!

Am flummoxed by the use of two deceptively similar words...

several thousands of

thousands of

Do both point to the same thing or are they meanings apart?

Advance Thanx

Default Re: Number Blunder!

'thousands of' leaves it wide open, as in 'thousands of people gathered to celebrate.." we don't know whether this is 3, or 20, or what. The same with ' people in their thousands..'

'several thousand' implies more than two, but not many - something between 3 and 5.
