it's beyound my understanding, please help me
while l read the sentence below,
All the students were assigned Harvard undergraduates as mentors,
and Mohammed Rezallah, or Mo, a sophomore, was Chynah's mentor. Whenever she saw him when he wasn't teaching, Chynah said,
Mo had his head in a book. "I decided I like reading," she said. "Mo made me want to read."
i coudln't understand those two sentences.
especially, Mo had his head in a book doen't mean literally, does it?
I really want to know.

1. Each student was given an academic adviser. The advisers were students from Harvard Univesity.
2. Mo was reading.
