Please proofread the following sentences.

1. Students who were off-topic were not awarded more than 3 marks in accuracy.
2. Students who deviated from the topic were awarded no more than 3 marks in accuracy.

Any difference between the above two?

No - both are good. 'off-topic' is the American colloquialism.
