Default be in your way, every step of the way

Dear teacher,
"...
If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I will think of you every step of the way.
..."

The above words are digested from the song named "I will always love you". But could you please tell me the meaning of "I would only be in your way "and "every step of the way"?

Thank you very much.

I would only be in your way = I would be stopping you from living yourlife to the full and achieving what you want

every step of the way = I'd say here it mean 'forever'- every step of the way through life.
