 sort, kind and type Could I use these words like this? What kind of car are you looking for? What sort of tea do you like to have? What type of drug are you taking? Are they OK? Could I say they have the same meaning? Thank you very much sumon. likes this. |

To ask what the type of drug is implies you need to be sure that there will not be a reaction between two kinds of drug - a fairly common medical problem. The other interpretation of "What kind of drugs" is that the person being questioned is suspected of taking illegal drugs. Are they OK? Could I say they have the same meaning? They are not completely interchangeable - certainly in the last sentence "sort" and "kind" are not really usable. How'd you say this? Are there different words that would be more "usual" ? See above.
