Default Please help

I am translating an aritcle and come across this unfamiliar phrase "Sox play it safe now for a healthy Beckett later". Can any one help? Thank you in advance

Josh Beckett is a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox (baseball team). He has had medical problems with his arm in recent years. Now that he's recovered, the team will use him sparingly at first so he doesn't re-injure himself.
