Hi there,

A friend of mine wore a pair of glasses with thick lenses. How can I ask if I ask him how much short-sight does he has?
Thaks

I'm not a teacher, but the way I normally hear that question asked is, "how short-sighted are you?"

hi there,

thanks

So could you proofread the following conversation?

A: How short-sighted are you?
B: I have 5 dioptre. But it is not right now. My short-sightedness has increased. It is now 6 dioptre.
A: Oh! What a pity!

thanks

Just as a clarification, "short sighted" is strictly BrE; in AmE we say "nearsighted." And I'm hoping that your bit of dialog is just for the sake of an example, and not something you'd actually say to a person with thick lenses. It is not particularly sensitive to ask a glasses-wearer how bad his eyes are, and then to further comment, "What a pity."
