line
Hi there,
Please proofread the following sentences.
One day, I was lining up at the check-out counter at a supermarket. Someone jumped the line. A lot of people on the line scolded him. He felt very embarrassed and walked to the end of the line. Someone came up and asked me if it was the line for credit card or cash. I told her it was for cash not for credit card. I was not sure if the one standing in front of me was lining up because she left the line and suddenly came back with some goods. so I asked her if she was walking in the line.
thanks

One time when I was in line at the supermarket check-out counter, a man jumped the line. A lot of people in line scolded him. He felt very embarrassed and walked back to the end. Someone then came up and asked me if the line was for credit card or cash use. I told her it was for cash, not credit card. I wasn't sure if the person standing in front of me was standin in line, since she left her place, then suddenly came back with some goods. So I asked her if she was cutting in on the line.

Re: line
Hi there,
Thank a lot.
I also have some questions.
1. Does 'cut in on the line' mean 'jump the line'?
2. The line was for credit card OR credit cards?
3. If I am not sure if someone standing in front of me is waiting, can I say like this, 'Excuse me, are you in line?'
Thanks

Re: line
1. Does 'cut in on the line' mean 'jump the line'? Yes, or "cut in front of the line," if he jumped to the front. We say he is "taking cuts"
2. The line was for credit card OR credit cards? Either one.
3. If I am not sure if someone standing in front of me is waiting, can I say like this, 'Excuse me, are you in line?' Yes, that is the best way to ask. And if someone "jumps" the line, you can say, "Excuse me, but I believe I am in line here."
