| Tonight I have to write( )for my English teacher. (a) composition (b) a composition (c) compositions (d) the compositions The book says the answer is (b) in that "compositon" can be countable when it means a piece of written work(essay) that is done at school . But, If so, aren't (c) and (d) also possible answers? Please give me your explanations. Thanks! |

| Hi! teachers! Tonight I have to write( )for my English teacher. (a) composition (b) a composition (c) compositions (d) the compositions --------------------------- Tonight I have to write( )for my English teacher. The answer should be 'A COMPOSITION' and should neither be C or D if you are going to make JUST ONE composition. Tonight I have to write COMPOSITIONS for my English teacher - This is right if you mean 'writing two or more compositions to your English teacher'. Tonight I have to write THE COMPOSITIONS for my English teacher - Including the article 'THE' makes it sound nonsensical. THE must be removed. It doesn't sound good to the ear though. It would make sense if it were a title. Ex. Tonight I have to write 'The Titanic' summary for my English teacher. |
