Cool to overcome or to overcoming

Given this sentence, which one is better in English:

Thanks

Attention: I'm not a teacher.

Hi Bushwhacker,

In my humble opinion the first one is well-sustained.

Cool Re: to overcome or to overcoming

What a conundrum!

But I think second one is the right one, because it is a prepositional sentence, isn't it?

Cheers,

Hi Bushwhacker,

I'm not an authorithy on English language. I follow the written in my Grammar namely "the infinitive form usually refers to the future and the gerund to the past". These were the grounds for my queer for you statement.

By overcoming difficulties strength in character and motivation to succeed may be established.
I had already learned something about human nature and overcoming difficulties

This plan included protecting the country's national border and gradually overcoming

Cool Re: to overcome or to overcoming

Thank You vil for your dedicated attention and a helping one indeed, but not being my intention to prolong unnecessarily this debate and by no means to abuse of your time, could you contribute with some explanation as for prepositional sentences, please.

Thanks
