Smile let the cards fall where they may

Hello!

I ran into the phrase "let the cards fall where they may" and wonder if it means "leave ... to fate" or "leave ... to chance". Could someone help me with this one?

Thanks,
Tak

By the way, is "spot on" UK usage? Well, I like it and will use it from now on to make it "global".

Best regards,
Tak
