Scrap or cast-off?

Hello everybody.

Once I heard the word "cast-off".. well, I'd like to use it instead of "scrap".

So, we have the sentence: "The delay was caused by some scrapped pieces"

Is it right to say "The delay was caused by some casted-off pieces" ??? Can I use this word as an adjective?

Not in that way- 'cast-off' is often used for clothes: he had to wear his elder brother's cast-offs.
