Poem's author
Many years ago at college I read a poem which has stayed with me through the years. I think I remember it correctly, but I've no recollection of who wrote it. It goes -
As I said to my friend because I am always talking,
"John", I said, which was not his name,
"The darkness surrounds us, what,
Can we do against it?"
"Drive!", he said, "for Chrissake watch out where you're going".
Can anyone identify the author and hopefully point me towards any more of his (her?) work?
I suspect from the "for Chrissake" that the author was American.

The poem you are looking for is I Know a Man by Robert Creeley.
This is a place to go

Re: Poem's author
Google completed a project to digitalize online the entire libraries of several universities etc in the world. When you need to look up any reference like this, type in
"As I said to my friend because I am always talking" or some such line and Google takes you straight to it.
To track down the works of an author, go to amazon.com and amazon.uk with the authors name, or name of one of the books if you don't know the author. Also in Google, type in the author's name plus 'bibliography' and the world is yours!
For an actor, 'filmography'

Many thanks, Snowcake. I initiated this thread more in hope than expectation and within a day you've come up with the goods.
Many thanks again.

Thanks, David L. That's something I wasn't aware of, but I'll now be putting to good use - thanks to you.
