Default Sentences with "a lot of"

I have a lot of left over sandwiches. <--correct?
I have a lot of left over sandwiche. <--incorrect?

Does "a lot of" make "sandwich" plural and is this applied to all cases?

If the noun can have a plural, like sandwiches, then 'a lot of' will be like 'many', so the plural is used. If the noun is uncountable, like money, then we say 'a lot of money'.
