Do you mean "broken up" or "broke down"?

"to be broken up" means to be very emotional. It can be saddness OR happiness.

I break up everytime I see a picture of my puppy.

The whole family was breaking up at the dinner table when he told the joke.

You can also "break down." It also mean very emotional, usually start to cry.

She broke down when she got her grades.

He broke down after his father's funeral.

Another question: "kind of" can be used followed by a verb?" I think I should kind of thank you for your help last month." Or " He kind of broke up when he could recover his puppy again. "

I would not use "kind of" in writing, or in speaking either!

It is a verbal phrase used to fill in for another word, as in "like" or OK? Young people use these "fillers"

My mother was somewhat of a refined person.
