    Default less/fewer + countable noun

Is it "less" or "fewer" units (were sold)? Or both? Up to now I've followed the rule fewer + countable nouns but a quick web search revealed the following:

    fewer units: 98,400 hits
    less units: 44,600 hits

Can an expert comment on this!

    Cheers

Try to use fewer + countable plural noun - the option with less seems to be colloquial.
