Default state or condition?

Hello everyone

I'd like to ask which word is more appropriate in the followng sentence -- state or condition.

Our organization conducted a study of the modern state/condition of civic education in XXX.

I would choose "condition" in that sentence.

If you wanted to say that it was a study conducted to show what the situation of present-day civic education was

I'd suggest

Our organization conducted a study of the current state of civic education in XXX.

As a native speaker, I think that either is acceptable, but I would lean towards "state" rather than "condition" in that sentence.

It's just a common way of saying that. Example:
Q: How is he doing?
A: He is in good condition.
