Hi,

What is the different between the "intellectual author" vs the "material author"? Are they both journalists?

I quoted the context for your reference.

Much was made of the Francesa refereed to by Dr. Fowler, but without her testimony no intellectual author could be definitely linked to the murder of Robert, and it appeared that the material authors had already submitted to an alternative and more e xacting justice system.

From the context, the material authors believed in Francesca's story,right? and what about the more exacting justice system? exacting here = real, like real justice system?

The material author is the person who ommitted the crime, while the intellectual author is the person who inspired or persuaded them to do it.

If the material authors are the persons who committed the crime, then from the story they all are dead. In this case, what they "have already submiited to alternative and more exacting justice system" can be? or the material authors can be anyone who involves with this murder plan but need not to be the murderer.

Without full context, and based on your comment that they are dead, then they have faced the justice handed out by God.
