Default percent or percentage

What is the difference between "percent" and "percentage"; which one would be the correct one to use in the case:
"the concentration was given in % (percent or percentage)"?

Use the word "percent" with numbers and "percentage" without using a number.
Percent is an adverb and percentage is a noun.
