Default sneak/sneaked/snuck

Several sites read it is perfectly okay to use "snuck" as the principal part of "sneak". However, in my Abeka Oral Language book (home school), it reads it is never acceptable to use snuck as the past tense of sneak. What are your thoughts?

It's colloquial and informal, and mainly found in AmE. Good word, though!

In colloquial speech, I like
I sneaked a look at what he was writing
but
I snuck into the house
and
He snuck up on me

Although we use it in speech quite frequently, I don't think that "snuck" is really a word. I wouldn't write it, but I might get caught saying it. :)
