childish and girlish
Dear teachers,
As far as I know "childish" bears negative meaning. According to word formation could you please explain if "girlish" bears negative meaning too?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Yes, childish is generally has a negative connotation.
Girlish, however, is usually positive, calling to mind a little girl:
Stella's girlish smile was charming.

Sorry, the "is" is a mistake.

Dear phukos,
Thank you very much for your explanation. Now I understand it. But I don't understand your reply in this post. Could you please explain to me what "the 'is' is a mistake" means?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

I accidentally typed: ", childish is generally has a negative connotation."
I first wrote "Childish is derogatory," but changed the sentence to " Childish
has a negative connotation." I didn't erase the 'is' I first typed. That's all!
Thanks

It's easier and simpler, for later readers of the thread, just to go back and use the life-saving Edit feature to fix up typos in one's posts. I have the same problem, thinking one thing, deciding on another, but my fingers type a combination salad of the two.
