Awful Days
When my mom gave me her car to drive when I got my license I was thrilled. It was a black 1994 Honda Civic DX. At the time I did not care what I was driving as long as it got me where I wanted to go. Beginning in October of 2003 my car started having major problems. It started with my antifreeze leaking, then my starter, timing belt, battery, and water pump went, next was my radiator, and now it is my distributor. This is how my life has become a disaster for over a year.
Last October I realized that my needle for the hot and cold kept moving to the hot. I added antifreeze to my radiator thinking that it was just low. I was on my way home from a funeral late one night when my car cut off on me. I was on a dark back road and no way of getting help. I managed to find a house and call a tow truck. Come to find out the next day I was leaking antifreeze and when it got real hot it sprayed on my distributor, which caused it to turn off. We got that fixed, at least that’s what we thought. Another night I had the same problem and that time it was the antifreeze leaking. It took us two months to finally get that right. It was one thing after another.
In January of 2004 the day before my baby shower my car quit working. I was in a hurry because I had things to do to prepare for my shower. I tried starting my car but it only made a ticking sound. I looked under the hood to see if anything was unhooked but I saw nothing. I called my mom to let her know and she sent my stepfather to take a look. His first thought was that it was the starter. He went to Advance Auto and got a new starter. We put that on and that wasn’t right. His next thought was that it was the battery. He went and got another battery. When we realized that he had no clue has to what was wrong we called someone that would know. Come to find out it was my timing belt. That took a really long time for them to fix. They had to lift my motor, and reset the timing. I finally had it back to working after a month. Everything went fine after that for another two months until my radiator started spraying antifreeze at me again. I fixed that one myself by going to the store and getting radiator leak guard. After that I have not had problems with “Antifreeze.”
Here we go with this other problem that is happening now. The weekend before school started we had a hurricane come through. I had been riding and when I got home the car acted fine, even when I was driving it. That next day I was going to my mothers until my car would not start. I thought to myself, well this has happened before just let me keep trying. Nothing happened. We tried everything possible to fix it without buying parts. I was even outside all greased up. Our thoughts were that it was the spark plugs or either my distributor was wet from rain. It did end up being the distributor but not because it was wet, but because the module had given out. I am now in the process of waiting on my part to arrive.
After all that I have been through with this car I am surprise it is still running.
This car has cause more problems with me than it ever did with my mother. It always messed up on my right before something big was going to happen and that is what made it so awful. The antifreeze leaking, my car not starting the day before my baby shower and then my car not starting two days before started. I have never been late for so many things until I got my license. Used cars are not a got way or transportation to major events.
