(1) Make it out to Eve = ?

Context:
Now more like a woman than a girl, she waited in line with everyone else. He had her pulled to the front, where she dropped a CD booklet in front of him, leaned forward and whispered close to his ear so her lips brushed against his skin, "Make it out to Eve."

"Eve," he repeated, trying it out on his tongue. He told the manager he was taking a break and pulled her into a back room.

"I told you," she teased, but he just stared at his feet.

"I don't have my wings back," he confessed, removing his shirt and showing her the scars. She touched them gently, as though they might still hurt, and kissed his shoulders.

(2) What does "go by" mean?

Context:
His ears blushed red and he explained he wasn't a secret agent, wasn't anyone's lover, and wasn't even sure if he was as much man as boy. She noted his broad shoulders, big hands, whiskered chin, how his voice came from deep inside his throat, and gave him a lopsided smile. If he wasn't a man yet, he was well on his way.

"What does a sad-eyed boy with slumped shoulders go by, then?"

"Angel," he said, and saw the girl look surprised, then pleased.

"Are you Spanish?"

it means " what name does he go by", "what do you call him", "what name would you give him".

make it out to someone - I know you make a check out to someone meaning you write a check to sb.

Thank?

Check = cheque ?

Make a cheque to Eve? For example,
Make a cheque for 100 dollars to Eve?

Is it a metaphor or he really gives Eve money?

Well, it should be "make a check OUT to Eve", write a check with the name "Eve" in the line that says "payable to....".

I was confused about the abbreviation CD thinking it was a music CD. After I had checked into it, CD stands also for "certificate of deposit" and I assume you would also have to fill that one out the same way a regular check is filled out. That's why I think a certificate of deposit is "made out to someone" and that's what the sentence is about. I think.

Cheque? (sp.) I guess.... We are using the word check instead.
