Yes. On the understanding that replace yours “stir” with mine “steer”.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

The boat, or shell, is sometimes steered by a coxswain, who sits at the back of the vessel and manipulates tiller ropes attached to a rudder; the coxswain also directs the speed and rhythm of the crew's strokes.

coxswain, steersman = a person who usually steers a cockboat and has charge of its crew
cockboat (n) = a small rowboat, especially one used to ferry supplies from ship to shore.
