thanks indeed | Not close to me. I can be subjective which does not make me parochial. Biased is close to prejudiced.
Parochial means narrowly restricted in scope or outlook; provincial. |

| | Re: parochial I know the expression 'parochial politics', which is as far as I know used in a pejorative way.
However, parochial does not only carry the meaning of being narrow-minded or only being concerned with small issues that happen in your local area. "It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see." (Winston Churchill)
Mainly (or originally), it means being supported by or located in a parish, such as parochial schools or churches.
IMHO.

| | Re: parochial The word was used in a post a couple of days ago, in a thread begun by dawoodusmani - by moi.
I meant it in the meaning as given in Cambridge dictionary, reference, this site:
parochial (LIMITED)
showing interest only in a narrow range of matters, especially those which directly influence yourself, your town or your country:
Hence, my "parochial thinking" when answering in terms of Brit. Eng. and totally forgetting Am. differed on the matter discussed. | | The Following User Says Thank You to David L. For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
