Dear friends,
I just wonder what the correct use of Parochial is ?
parochial view, parochial opinion .
does it have a close meaning to biased, partial , subjective .
thanks indeed
parochial=derived from parish
Meaning-narrow,a group with old values, not broad minded,
I know the expression 'parochial politics', which is as far as I know used in a pejorative way.
However, parochial does not only carry the meaning of being narrow-minded or only being concerned with small issues that happen in your local area.
"It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see."
(Winston Churchill)
Mainly (or originally), it means being supported by or located in a parish, such as parochial schools or churches.
IMHO.

Is
parochial = a group with old values = not broad minded.
One of the meanings of the word is NARROW MINDED
The word was used in a post a couple of days ago, in a thread begun by dawoodusmani - by moi.
I meant it in the meaning as given in Cambridge dictionary, reference, this site:
parochial (LIMITED)
showing interest only in a narrow range of matters, especially those which directly influence yourself, your town or your country:
Hence, my "parochial thinking" when answering in terms of Brit. Eng. and totally forgetting Am. differed on the matter discussed.
