Default the moral accomplices of the secret policemen

Hi,

Could anyone help me with the underlined sentence?

The fundamental obligation of the reporter is to the truth. Starting messing with that for any reason and you become the moral accomplices of the secret policemen.

Thanks a lot.

Celia

It's complicated, but boiled down to its essential meaning it means that if the reporter does anything but tell the truth than by his actions he assists the secret police.

Hi Celia,

I am not a teacher so a better explanation may be presented later.

This is the way I would interpret the sentence to someone.....

Start messing with the truth and you will find yourself in a very complicated, unsavoury or immoral position that would be very difficult to get out of.

Hope this helps.
