At first, I do beleive there are many things that you can not describe why?
In this example, I think "Drink" will means the action itself and will be as a habit. While "take" will provide the meaning of choosing which you want here.

It is one of those old collocations that has become the normal usage. In the 18th century, it was polite to ask if one took something to eat or drink, and it has remained with tea as an idiomatic phrase.
