Hi reenamma,

For example:

"That shirt fits you sir" = The shirt is the right size.

"That shirt suits you sir" = The colour/style etc. looks good on the person.

Perhaps this is way a set of clothes or a piece of clothing to be worn in a particular situation is called "suit". It makes us look attractive.
