Default do a double take

What does it mean when someone does a double take?

What you do when you notice something you had not expected to see. You see it, then you consciously look at it to make sure it is what you think it is.

Only in that looking and seeing are physical actions.

Although I will say that I have sat next to an incredibly beautiful girl on a booth at an International Fair, and watched in fascination the number of men walking down the aisle who saw her and sharply turned to look a second time - she was quite oblivious of the effect she was having Some even walked back to have a third look.
